Wheels so big it looks like a Harley-Davidson.

If you want to cruise in style round the block or tear up some off road terrain you can’t go wrong with the 15 inch high and 6 inch wide tires on the Mototec FatBoy.

The FatBoy features the largest tires of any other electric scooter in the market but what else would you expect, after all it is called Fat…Boy.

To put the size of the wheels into perspective, they are three times as wide as standard electric scooter wheels.

But how do these big wheels benefit you?

Thanks to the large surface area and three-dimensional pattern of the tires the FatBoy’s wheels are capable of producing enough grip to handle almost all types of terrain.

It is also equipped with front disc and rear drum brakes to ensure this big boy can effectively slow down and stop.

Imagine riding around on an uneven road with small 7.5 inch wheels. It can sometimes be quite jarring as you bounce up and down to the tune of the bumps in the surface below.

Now, picture yourself gliding over that uneven road with big, shock absorbing, wheels. You can cruise in comfort letting you enjoy every moment while you’re riding.

Aside from having a tremendous amount of grip and unparalleled comfort, everything about the FatBoy has been designed around the humongous wheels.

mototec fatboy big wheels

Starting from the wheels up, it features wide-bearing mudguards that protect you and the scooter from water and dirt thrown up from the ground below. Further up, it has a large 11inch wide deck followed by a big high-grade steel frame that is extremely durable.

And it doesn’t stop there, the oversized design makes its way all the way up to the handlebar post where you’ll find an extra large headlight capable of lighting the way ahead at night. Moving our way up the handlebars, the FatBoy features wide cruiser style handlebars which resemble a Harley-Davidson.

Finally, the FatBoy has been topped off with a large comfortable saddle seat which you’ll appreciate on long journeys. Oh, and before I forget, you can even remove the seat if you want to ride the scooter standing up.

While we are on the topic of long journeys, the powerful battery will let you ride for 20 miles and the 500W rear hub motor will propel you at a top speed of 20 mph.

Overall, the Mototec FatBoy is the ultimate big wheeled electric scooter that won’t just look good when you ride it but will deliver the goods whether you want to go fast, far or off-road.Further Information: Want to see more models with a seat? 2. Mototec Mad 1600W

mototec mad 1600w
Mototec Mad 1600W

Mototec Mad 1600W

If you want an electric scooter that has extremely large knobby wheels, the power to reach speeds up to 24 mph for 19 miles and a suspension system that lets you tackle all types of terrain, then the Mototec Mad 1600W is the one for you.$1,042.00SEE SCOOTER

Only a fraction smaller than the Mototec FatBoy, the Mototec Mad 1600W model is equipped with extremely large 14 inch high and 6 inch wide knobby tires that can take on any terrain you throw at them.

Thanks to the fat tires, the rest of the scooter follows suit and boasts a bulky body accompanied by a large bamboo footrest, thick, study handlebar post, and front and dual rear suspension systems. There is even room for storage with the two large waterproof bags attached to the front of the handlebars and below the seat.

At the beginning of this article I spoke about how big wheels often mean more speed and that is true with the Mototec Mad 1600W. The 1600W motor delivers over two horsepower and a substantial level of torque to power the scooter up to speeds of 20 – 24 mph. Not to mention, the battery power which lets you keep those large wheels rotating for 19 miles on a single charge.

You can also rest assured that you’ll be able to easily slow down while your tearing up the terrain below you thanks to the front and rear disk brakes. And the safety precautions don’t stop there, the combination of the tail light, side reflectors and dual headlights will keep you lit in low light.

Like the FatBoy, the 1600W has a seat designed for comfortable riding. However, the seat isn’t as padded as the FatBoy so if you plan on riding for a long distance (10+ miles) then you may want to opt for more padded seat.

One feature which makes this scooter stand out from all of the other XXL wheel models that I have reviewed, is the ability to not only adjust the handlebar height from 29.5 – 31.5 inches but also fold them.

What’s so good about that? I’m glad you asked.

Firstly, it means that pretty much anyone will be able to comfortably ride the scooter (even tall people like me). Also, a nice addition is that it can support riders up to 310 lbs. Secondly, when you fold the handlebars the scooter becomes far easier to store and if you want, transport (e.g. in your trunk).

So, if you want an electric scooter that has extremely large knobby wheels, the power to reach speeds up to 24 mph for 19 miles, a suspension system that lets you tackle all types of terrain and the option to fold your scooter to make it more portable and easier to store, then you should seriously consider the Mototec Mad 1600W.

3. Razor EcoSmart Metro

Razor EcoSmart Metro

Razor EcoSmart Metro

The Razor EcoSmart Metro has huge 16 inch wheels, a top speed of 18 mph, a 10 mile range, a padded seat and big frame robust enough to take on bumpy ground. It also features a detachable luggage carrier and basket which you can fill with food, drinks and even a music speaker to make your off-road adventure even more enjoyable.$519.99$599.99SEE SCOOTER

The Razor EcoSmart Metro has both the tallest and thinnest wheels of all the XXL wheeled electric scooters, measuring 16 inches in height by 2.13 inches in width.

Somewhat resembling the wheels you’d see on a small mountain bike, you’ll be able to ride this big wheeled scooter down dirt paths and over parks but nothing too challenging. This is mainly due to its elongated design.

As with all of the big wheeled electric scooters in this list, the EcoSmart Metro features a big cushioned seat but where this scooter differs is the fact that you can’t completely remove the seat. You can pull the seat post out but the tube where the post fits will remain.

Despite being the cheapest XXL model, the power of acceleration can’t go unnoticed. You will be able to reach speeds of up to 18 mph and take it from me, travelling at this speed on an electric scooter feels very fast. It’s slightly slower than its more expensive counterparts but you will definitely get a thrill out of it.

However, where this scooter falls short is the mileage. On a full charge you can ride the EcoSmart Metro for approximately 10 miles, almost half of the Mototec FatBoy and Mad 1600W. That being said, you get what you pay for you and after all, 10 miles is a fairly decent amount of range that will let you enjoy cruising along.

The EcoSmart Metro is best suited to those of you searching for a big wheeled electric scooter that you ride round the local areas as opposed to go exploring terrain outside the confines of a 5 mile radius.

With that in mind, there is one feature which turns the EcoSmart Metro from a fun-to-ride scooter to one that is also practical.

As you can probably see from the image above, it has a luggage carrier and basket. These let you carry a bag, music speaker or pretty much anything you want with ease. You could have a day out on this scooter and put everything you need in the basket. Oh, and if you don’t like the look of the scooter with the luggage carrier and basket you can easily detach them.Further Information: See my full review of the Razor EcoSmart Metro

1. Wolf Warrior

Wolf Warrior

Wolf Warrior

With 11 inch high and 3.5 inch wide wheels, a top speed of 50 mph, an 80 mile range, motorcycle grade hydraulic suspension and enough power to climb up 45-degree inclines, the Wolf Warrior is the beast that you’ll never get bored of.$2,899.00$3,199.00SEE SCOOTER

Wolf Warrior. Sounds pretty cool, right?

Hell yeah it does!

This electric scooter is an absolute beast and I’m going to tell you why. But, first let’s take a look at the video below.

Coming in at 11 inches high and 3.5 inches wide the Wolf Warrior has the some of the biggest wheels out there.

The wheels have much more than size to them. The three-dimensional tread pattern improves the tire’s traction on all surfaces, especially wet surfaces. The airless design means you’ll never get a flat tire and you even get the choice of having street or off-road tires when you order your own Wolf Warrior.

wolf warrior wheel

The scooter is powered by front and rear wheel drive to deliver a thrilling top speed of 50 mph whilst the huge LG battery can power the rotation of the wheels for 80 miles on a single charge.

Thanks to the two powerful motors and the extra large wheels, the Wolf Warrior can handle rough terrain and climb 45-degree inclines. To give you an idea of exactly how steep that is, take your phone, stand it up on a table and then angle it down half way towards the table. Even some cars would struggle to scale an incline that steep!

I doubt you’ll ever need to climb a 45-degree incline but it is reassuring knowing that you can take on pretty much any hill thrown at you.

In addition to the raw power, the scooter has motorcycle grade hydraulic suspension that sits above the front wheel alongside springs above the back that work in conjunction to provide a comfortable ride over all kinds of terrain. There is also the option to enable the ABS (anti-lock braking system) system to ensure those big wheels can be safely slowed down without locking up and skidding when the brakes are applied.

Other safety features include the big and bright LEDs that cast light ahead, to the side, and behind the scooter to ensure you stay visible at night.

If you are searching for an electric scooter that looks badass, has big wheels and raw power then the Wolf Warrior is the best choice for you.

2. Mototec MiniMad 800W

mototec minimad 800w
Mototec Minimad 800W

Mototec Minimad 800W

Designed by one of the top 100 industrial designers in the world, the MiniMad’s ergonomic shape and large wheels exude a blend of bike and scooter to produce a uniquely looking big wheeled electric scooter that is ideal for street use.$648.00$849.00SEE SCOOTER

Measuring in at the same size as the Wolf Warrior, the Mototec MiniMad 800W has 11 inch high and 3.5 inch wide wheels.

The MiniMad has been designed for the street and as you would expect, the wheels follow suit.

If you have read my review of the Mototec Mad 1600W scooter but you don’t want to fork out the cash and are looking for a scooter with street-grade tires as opposed to off-road tires then the 800W will be ideal for you.

By trading in those big 14 x 6 inch wheels that feature on its big brother (Mototec Mad 1600W), the MiniMad is far more compact, evident from it being 7 inches shorter and 10 inches smaller when folded than its older sibling.

Although the MiniMad is slightly smaller than the Mad 1600W model, it still packs a punch. It boasts an advanced lithium-ion battery which can power the scooter for 20 miles, as well as a powerful 800W motor capable of spinning the rear wheels to reach a max speed of 18 mph.

As with most of Mototec’s electric scooters you’ll benefit from the standard features, including: bright dual headlights that illuminate the street in front of you, rear disc brakes to slow those big wheels down, a seat to let you sit back and cruise and adjustable handlebars that let you ride the MiniMad comfortably.

Having been designed by Alessandro Tartarinione of the top 100 industrial designers in the world, the MiniMad’s ergonomic shape and large wheels exude a blend of bike and scooter to produce a uniquely looking big wheeled electric scooter.

3. UberScoot 1000W

UberScoot 1000W

UberScoot 1000W

Ideal for beginners looking for their first electric scooter with big wheels. The 10 inch pneumatic (air-filled) tires at the front and back let you ride with stability as you roll over bumps and irregular terrain.$546.00$709.00SEE SCOOTER

With the 10 inch pneumatic (air-filled) tires at the front and back, the UberScoot 1000W lets you ride with stability as you roll over bumps and irregular terrain.

It’s not just the big wheels that give you stability though, the advanced shock absorbing suspension at the front and back of the scooter works in cohesion with the tires to cushion your ride. The tread and stiff sidewalls of the tires also mean better cornering and handling.

Although the UberScoot 1000W has the smallest extra large wheels (what a mouthful!) compared to the other two models that I have reviewed (Wolf Warrior and Mototec MiniMad 1600W), it still has a decent rollover.

You’re probably thinking ‘What’s rollover?!

Let me explain.

Imagine you are pulling a suitcase with small 2 inch wheels along and you have a 2 inch high obstacle in front of one of the wheels. It is going to be a struggle to get that suitcase to roll over the obstacle because of the steep angle that needs to be overcome. Now, imagine you are riding an electric scooter with 10 inch wheels (e.g. the UberScoot 1000W). The angle of attack to roll over the 2 inch obstacle becomes a lot shallower and therefore, a smoother ride is achieved.

The wheels also sit on tough aluminum rims to match the durable steel frame and deck.

But what about the fun stuff? Let me show you.

20 mph, check.

10 mile range, check.

One touch folding frame, check.

Daredevil design, check.

Want to know more?

You can choose to ride with the seat installed or remove it if you want to ride standing up. You can grab hold of the BMX style handlebars as you traverse the ground ahead. And, you can flip the scooter into economy mode to conserve battery power.

The UberScoot 1000W is ideal for beginners looking for their first electric scooter with big wheels.

Large (L): 8-9 Inches

1. Segway Ninebot ES4

segway ninebot es4
Segway Ninebot ES4

Segway Ninebot ES4

Winner of the iF Design Awards, the Segway Ninebot ES4 boasts a wide range of impressive features that make this scooter one of the best all round models that you can buy. Cruise control, anti-lock braking, a top speed of 18.6 mph, a range of 28 miles and customizable LED lights are just some of the features that you’ll benefit from.$769.00SEE SCOOTER

The wheels on the Segway Ninebot ES4 may not be the biggest (8 inches) but the wide range of impressive features make this scooter one of the best all round models that you can buy and as soon as you open the box and unwrap your new ES4, the sleek, modern, design will bring an instant smile to your face.

My favourite feature that really highlights the ingenuity of Segway as personal transport leaders is the cruise control function.

Just like you would use cruise control on a car, you can use it on your scooter. Just imagine hopping on your scooter, throttling the acceleration up to nearly 19 mph and clicking on cruise control so you can enjoy gliding along the boardwalk, park or even your commute hands-free while you let the scooter do all the hard work for you.

segway ninebot handlebar display

But what if you need to stop quickly?

Well, the ingenuity of the engineering team who designed and built the Ninebot ES4, made sure that you can slow down safely without skidding by integrating anti-lock braking technology into the wheels.

In fact, it has a 13 foot braking distance when traveling at 12.4 mph.

Oh, and one last thing, when you brake, an LED at the rear of the scooter will light up to indicate to the traffic behind that you are slowing down (just like a car would).

segway ninebot wheel

The ES4 is Segways premium electric scooter model and this is largely reflected in the top speed (18.6 mph) and the powerhouse of the battery that will let you enjoy riding the scooter for not 10,15 or 20 miles but a staggering 28 miles. The battery has also been designed to not overheat or short circuit and also has over-current and over-charge protection to ensure that you can charge and use the battery again and again without fault.

If you can’t tell already, everything about the Segway Ninebot ES4 has been designed with meticulous attention to detail, even down to the folding system.

Folding the scooter is as simple as stepping on the folding pedal while pushing the handlebar forward slightly. Then fold the handlebar down until it locks into.

Considering it only weighs 30.9 lbs it is, as you would expect, easy to carry – making it ideal for your commute and storage.

segway ninebot customizable lights

Finally, this scooter won the iF Design Award in 2018 and it is easy to see why with the sleek dark grey finish, built-in LED display to show your speed and remaining battery life, and the ability to customize the color of the rear and side lights to suit whatever mood you’re in.

2. WideWheel Dual

WideWheel Dual

WideWheel Dual

Everything from the charcoal grey frame down to the wide mud guards, futuristic looking suspension, uniquely shaped deck, and, of course, the ultra-wide wheels, give the WideWheel the aesthetics of what I imagine an electric scooter designed by a Lamborghini craftsman would look like.$1,199.00SEE SCOOTER

The WideWheel Dual may not have the tallest wheels but what it lacks in height, it makes up for in width.

The clue is in the name, this impressive electric scooter has 4 inch wide wheels that are some of the thickest on the market. The wide wheels are also 8 inch high.

In my review of the UberScoot 1000W I spoke about rollover and how bigger tires have much better rollover than smaller ones but despite the WideWheel only having 8 inch wheels, it is still able to take on obstacles and irregular terrain thanks to the extremely powerful, torque generating, motors which will propel you at speeds up to 25 mph. So, as you speed along, the grip and traction from the wide wheels make light work of ground below.

However, the wheels are only 8 inches so you can’t roll over potholes but you can still drop into modest road imperfections and the suspension will take care of you and keep your legs and wrists happy.

Paying special attention to the width of the tires (why wouldn’t I, it is called the WideWheel!) the large surface area and tread pattern makes decent contact with flat terrain, such as roads, and offers better grip and traction than most of the other electric scooters that have thinner wheels.

The combination of the torque generated by the dual motors, front and rear wheel drive system, and the grip of the wheels means you can climb pretty much any hill, including those steep streets in San Francisco.

Everything from the charcoal grey frame down to the wide mud guards, futuristic looking suspension, uniquely shaped deck, and, of course, the ultra-wide wheels, give the WideWheel Dual the aesthetics of what I imagine an electric scooter designed by a Lamborghini craftsman would look like.

Even the way you can fold the scooter makes it stand out from its competitors. You can simply fold the handlebar post down and both handles in to make the scooter thin and compact, making it ideal for commuting and storing.

The WideWheel from Fluid Free Ride is quite simply, a fun electric scooter that will bring an instant smile to your face as soon as you step foot on it.

It is powerful, super comfortable and good value for money, especially as you are backed by a 90 day warranty and the support of Fluid Free Ride to work with you to find a solution to any issue that you may have – even if it’s not covered by the warranty.

I definitely recommend this scooter if you want an all-round, high performing, electric scooter that you’ll never get bored of.

3. UberScoot 300W

uberscoot 300w
UberScoot 300W

UberScoot 300W

A great entry-level scooter for beginners who just want an electric scooter to play around on occasionally and are not too bothered about using it for anything more than fun.$259.00$329.00SEE SCOOTER

The UberScoot 300W may have the largest wheels (9 inches) out of all of the big wheeled electric scooters in the Large (L: 8-9 inch) category but it does not match the other models for performance.

In fact, the UberScoot falls quite short. It has a top speed of 13 mph compared to an average top speed of 20-25 mph and a 10 mile range, compared to an average mileage of 17-20 miles.

You’re probably thinking: ‘Why is the UberScoot 300W being recommended?’

Well, the 300W is actually a great entry-level scooter for beginners who just want an electric scooter to occasionally play on and are not too bothered about using it for anything more than fun.

As a general rule of thumb though, any scooter that goes slower than 15 mph, is in my opinion, better suited to children. So, if you want to pick up a basic and reliable model for your kids birthday, the 300W will not disappoint. The twist grip throttle and hand pulled brake are so easy to use that your little one will be able to jump on the scooter and ride it like its second nature to them.

Back to the wheels, because after all, that is what you are here for!

As opposed to some of the other models listed, the wheels are filled with air which means they are susceptible to punctures (just like any standard mountain bike). If you plan on riding the scooter across harsh terrain or areas that have sharp objects then you may want to opt for a scooter that has either bigger wheels with a thicker tread or solid pneumatic ones.

But, one of the biggest benefits of the 9 inch air pneumatic tires is their ability to absorb the unevenness of terrain as well as traction over loose material so you can enjoy a smoother and more comfortable ride as you experience less shaking.
