Your leather purse holds a little bit of everything: money, makeup and even food. It’s no surprise, then, when the bag starts to smell less than fresh. Cash and coins carry odor-causing bacteria, for example. Food crumbs can rot, causing a bad smell in the purse that never seems to go away. Cleaning your purse thoroughly is the best way to remove strong odors and make the bag smell nice again.
There are different way to remove smell from your leather bags. However, my favorite tip is this- don’t buy a leather bag that smells! Smell ,most times is usually a result of leather that has not being properly tanned and treated. Truth be told- sometimes these smell never leave and they are horrendous! So when buying pay attention to the smell. Don’t fall for the thought that the smell will leave. If it smells now, it may probably continue to smell!
If you have already purchased a leather bags that smells, use one of the following affordable and natural ways to remove it.
- BAKING POWDER:
Baking powder is a great odor neutralizer. One way to use is to pour in directly in the bag and leave for a few days. However, this can be messy . A less messy way to do this is to pour into a thin sock or a stocking, securely knot the end. Then put into the smelly bag and wait a few days for the smell to dissipate.
- VINEGAR: Vinegar is another effective odor neutralizer. Mix one part clean water with one part vinegar.Get a clean clothe, dampen it and use it to clean both the insides and outsides of the leather handbag. Then leave to air. Please take care not to over-saturate it. You need to dilute the vinegar.
- PERSONALIZED POTPOURRI OF SMELLS: My favorite is coffee! Put coffee into a mesh bag and throw into your bag. If you are like some people who hate coffee, you can decide your own scent! It can be Thyme, Vanilla, Lavender or whatever preferable yet strong scent you want.Put it into the bag and let it over power the bad smell till it is non-existent.
