mac vs linux for programming

Suppose you want to know about the Mac Vs Linux For Programming guide, then this article is what you need. It contains windows vs mac vs linux for programming. Also, it includes the linux vs macos performance.

Each programmer have their own set of tools and ways they are comfortable with when coding. Creating a program takes effort and programmers tend to have different tools to make themselves more productive and make the task easier. Operating system is one of the thing that helps programmers to get things done more quickly. Some programmers prefer specific operating system and in this post I want to try to explain the three most used operating systems that is Windows, Linux, and MacOS from my own experience.

Mac Vs Linux For Programming

I once was a hardcore windows user. I thought that Windows was the best OS out there. I haven’t tried hands on using MacOS or Linux but have seen people use them and it seems pretty hard to use. I thought to myself, “why the heck would you use Linux, Windows has everything”. I used Raspberry Pi for one or two years coding program for robots and still think Windows is better. On my second job, I started using Linux to setup servers and MacOS to code (they gave me Macbook Pro for work).

You should read my post about my professional journey as a back end programmer so you know why I needed to setup servers. So here’s why I switched from being a Windows user to a Mac or Linux user (they are pretty much the same).

Setting up and installing dependencies is easier. Using MacOS you can use brew to install many things such as Postgres, Docker, and many more. The equivalent of it in Linux is “apt-get”“dnf”, or “yum”. In Windows you need to go to a website, find a link to the download page, choose installation type, download, then install which is quite a long process for me now. A few years back maybe it’s a normal thing, but now it’s seems like a long process. Of course installing applications like IDE, database tools, etc is still the same, but other than that it’s an automatic install with one or two commands.

Right now, I prefer using CLI rather than the user interface itself when developing a program. I use “touch” to create a file, “cp” to duplicate a file and so on. It’s just more convenient and quicker using CLI rather than the graphical user interface. Of course I still use the GUI, but I use it less often when developing. Windows also have a terminal but using Windows just felt unnatural and is a bit more challenging than using Linux or MacOS terminal.

Most servers uses Linux as their primary operating system. One of the reason is that Linux is lightweight and dev ops or developers don’t really need GUI for servers especially production servers. GUI is source consuming because operating systems needed to process everything and translate them to graphics, that’s why most servers uses Linux because it offers CLI only operating system. This means that everything you do on the server like running the program, setting up the server, opening up ports, installing third parties, uses command only.

I’m not only a back end programmer but sometimes also needed to setup development, staging, and production servers at times. I love to try new stacks or tools and try to implement them on side projects, that’s why I needed a local computer environment closest to the production server and most of the time it’s Linux.

linux vs macos performance

Migrating or switching from Windows to MacOS or Linux is a very hard thing to do, at least for me personally. It requires time and effort to understand how things work on these OS. When mostly everything is setup in Windows, you sometimes need some tweaking so that your hardware can run especially if you’re using less common distros in Linux. You need to forget about installing latest games or softwares on Linux or MacOS because most of the time developers focus on Windows first. If you want to be a complete programmer or software developer than start learning to use Linux is a great step.

If you want to be a full stack developer, or create a one man developer or don’t have any dev ops to setup your server, it’s not gonna be a problem. Familiarize yourself with Linux or at least MacOS is something mandatory for me if you want to go far in the IT industry. Thank you for reading, and I hope that you guys can learn something from this article. Cheers!!

AliExpress is a massively popular Chinese online retail service owned by Alibaba Group. It was launched in 2010 and hasn’t stopped its journey to becoming the ‘biggest online marketplace of the world‘ ever-since. AliExpress stands toe-to-toe even with Amazon in terms of buyers worldwide. It offers wholesale goods at direct-to-consumer prices from Chinese sellers.×280&!4&btvi=2&fsb=1&xpc=XrkRroOgKR&p=https%3A//

It also works as a great dropshipping model for a lot of e-commerce entrepreneurs. Along with a lot of good sides, AliExpress has some cons as well. The biggest problem is the shipping time of AliExpress orders, which is pretty long considering the goods come from China. Also, some orders can be very expensive after shipping charges and taxes.

So, it is a good thing to have some AliExpress alternatives whenever you don’t like its services. That’s why we are telling you about 21 best sites like AliExpress. Some of these websites offer cheaper prices and faster shipping on certain products. And, you can also use them to maintain a nice profit margin for your dropshipping business.

LightInTheBox is the perfect AliExpress alternative as it is also a Chinese e-Store. It sells hot and trending products across the globe. Their products range from phone and electronics to fashion, jewelry, shoes, bags, and many other items. You can find almost anything here at a very cheap price.

The delivery time of LightInTheBox is also similar to AliExpress as their warehouses are located only in China. But, you may get a faster shipping time due to having fewer orders to ship. You can pay for your orders with PayPal, Western Union, or your credit card.

Wish is a widely popular online marketplace where you can buy almost anything. From clothing to footwear, electronics, healthcare items, and many more things, you can get them all for an incredibly cheap price. They are also known to offer great deals and coupons to their new customers.

Their shipping time is also faster than AliExpress as their products come from sellers located in small countries. Wish also provides an advanced rating system that is very helpful for both the consumers as well as sellers. It helps promote good ones.

Overstock is a US-based online marketplace. It makes profit by selling wholesale products at a highly cheap price tag. A major portion of their stock is comprised of overstock from the major retailers or their seconds. You can find some really amusing deals here. The shipping time will also be lower as compared to the Chinese marketplaces. You can get your items within a week.

The product range of Overstock is incredible. You can find everything such as clothing, decor, kitchen appliances, and many more items. You can even find furniture and other big home items. So, you can use to fill your house with great stuff at a reduced price.

ChinaBrands is a widely popular Chinese e-Store where you can buy products at wholesale prices. You can find almost anything on this website at a highly affordable price. Their shipping prices are also low but you will get a long shipping time. It is the perfect website for buyers who want the lowest prices but can wait for their orders for at least a month.

Most of the ChinaBrands sellers run their factories from China, and their warehouses are located there only. This is the reason for the considerably long shipping time.
