In today’s Turkish Towels Beach review, we will be discussing turkish towels amazon, turkish cotton towels, beach towels, and the best turkish cotton bath towels. When picking out towels, you’ll want to consider the texture, look, and absorbency that you’re searching for. If you prefer an extra plush towel, you’ll need to allow a little extra time for drying. While quick-drying options may be a little thinner, they’ll cut down on time and energy that’s needed for them to dry. Before using your new towels for the first time, make sure to read the care instructions. They’ll teach you how to wash them properly in order to preserve the life of your towels. You should also steer clear of using quality towels with harsh chemicals or facial products that could cause discoloration or fading.
Some of life’s greatest pleasures just happen to be the simplest ones, like sinking into a nice, warm bath on a cold winter day. To get that experience just right, you need some good towels. And while traditional cotton bath towels will do the trick, they aren’t exactly ideal for use around coastal areas. For beach towels, you want something absorbent but lightweight. You want Turkish Towels.

eVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BUY TURKISH TOWELS
I’LL NEVER FORGET MY FIRST TURKISH TOWEL.
It was ocean blue with white stripes and perfectly tied fringes dangling on each side. It was thin and lightweight and filled with handmade goodness.
At the time, I wondered if a thin towel could possibly be absorbent. But I was intrigued. I asked if a Turkish towel would do the job drying my skin after a shower or a swim in the pool. The seller, a free-spirited woman with long flowing hair and a laid back boho-style, showed me a “broken-in” towel – it had been washed multiple times and it was beautifully soft with a vintage look.
AND SHE WAS ABOUT TO TEACH ME THE SECRET TO TURKISH TOWELS…
Hi, I’m Grace. That first towel turned into an obsession with Turkish towels, and the start of The Bali Market, a company dedicated to providing the best Turkish towels for people who want to minimize and simplify their lives.
As the owner of the Turkish towel company, The Bali Market, the biggest question I receive is are Turkish towels really absorbent? They totally are!
WANT TO KNOW THE SECRET I LEARNED?
That day, the seller taught me that the secret to absorbency lies in the unique quality of Turkish cotton. Turkish cotton has looooong fibers and with use the long Turkish cotton fibers soften and become delightfully absorbent.
It’s the long fibers of Turkish cotton that make Turkish towels absorbent! [Fun Fact] Because they’re thin, they also air dry super quick!
A towel needs to be absorbent, so it’s no wonder our most popular towel is the Waffle Weave towel. People say it’s the most absorbent of our collection.
That first Turkish bath towel with fringe became my favorite bath towel – and then some. It also became my go-to travel blanket on flights. It became my scarf when it was chilly. It became my pool towel. And when I wasn’t “using” it, I used it to decorate my apartment for a simple, minimalist look.
This towel became so much more than a towel. But we’re not here to talk about my obsession with Turkish towels.
WE’RE HERE TO HELP YOU DECIDE IF TURKISH TOWELS ARE RIGHT FOR YOU.
We’ll also discuss what to look for when buying Turkish towels, where to buy Turkish towels, and all the things you need to know if you’re ready to get started with Turkish towels. Alright, let’s go!
First things first.
WHAT IS A TURKISH TOWEL?
A Turkish towel is a towel made in Turkey on looms with Turkish cotton. Turkish towels were invented in the 17th century in Bursa, Turkey. They also can be called Turkish peshtemal bath towels, foutas, pestemals, and hammams.
TURKISH TOWELS ARE CONSIDERED TO BE THE FIRST TOWEL INVENTED.
So they are real classics! (love an original? The Bali Market’s original towel is the Perfect Classic)
Now you know what a Turkish towel is, and you know that the secret to a Turkish towel’s absorbency is thanks to Turkish cotton. But are all Turkish towels the same quality? No way.
SO HOW CAN YOU TELL IF A COMPANY HAS QUALITY TOWELS OR CRUMMY TOWELS?
Quality varies from weaver to weaver and a higher priced towel typically reflects a higher quality product. The average price range for a quality towel is $30-$65.
You’ll want to look for Turkish towels that are hand-loomed in Turkey, and made from 100% First Grade Turkish cotton. Turkish towels are not fast-fashion. They’re an artisan crafted textile.
Pro tip: Avoid “made with Turkish cotton” – that means it’s only partially made from Turkish cotton. It should say 100% Turkish Cotton.
HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOU’RE GETTING A QUALITY TOWEL?
We’re all about authenticity at The Bali Market and that’s why we work directly with a women owned Turkish towel company in Turkey. They value using traditional wooden hand looms, and locally grown First Grade Turkish cotton.
Be careful who you shop from. Make sure you’re getting real Turkish towels. When you buy from The Bali Market you’re getting the real thing.
PURCHASING A REAL TURKISH TOWEL ALSO MEANS YOU’RE SUPPORTING A COMMUNITY.
Families and entire communities depend on the production and sale of Turkish towels to support their livelihood. So every time you purchase a Bali Market towel you’re supporting a community, an ancient craft and a sustainable product. It’s definitely a win-win 🙂
ANOTHER COMMON QUESTION I RECEIVE IS,
ARE TURKISH TOWELS HARD TO CARE FOR?
The answer is no, but I totally get why you’re think that. They’re different than regular towels. But their care is quite simple. Here’s how to keep your towels looking and feeling awesome.
- You must wash your Turkish towel before you use it. It needs to be washed to become absorbent. You can also soak your towel in cool water overnight. This really helps your towel become more absorbent.
- Use a gentle cycle on your washing machine and a low heat on the dryer. Avoid fabric softeners and dryer sheets as they gunk up the fibers making them less absorbent. And of course, avoid bleach!
- Turkish towels air dry super quickly, so you can also hang them to dry, which is so awesome.
Another thing to keep in mind: Fringes are durable but may come untied from time to time. There’s a simple solution though. Learn how here —> How to Fix Untied Fringes on Turkish Towels.
PEOPLE LOVE TURKISH TOWELS BECAUSE THEY’RE ABSORBENT, LIGHTWEIGHT AND QUICK-DRYING.
Sure, Turkish towels are all of those things. But what I love about Turkish towels isn’t that they make great towels, it’s how they make you feel.
IT’S THE SIMPLE JOY THAT TURKISH TOWELS BRING YOU.
After all, a towel is a really personal belonging. Think about it. You use a towel everyday, multiple times a day, on your most exposed and intimate body parts. Honestly, your towel probably sees you naked more than anyone else in your life. So yes, they’re personal – and because Turkish towels only get better with use (fun fact), they easily become a part of more than your bathroom routine. They become a part of your home, a part of your life.

We asked our customers their most favorite ways they use their Bali Market Turkish towels. Here’s what they had to say.
1. MAKE IT A TABLE CLOTH/RUNNER
Sara of Larks & Co. (@shemley) used her Perfect Classic towel to set the table for a late afternoon lunch on the beach in Costa Rica.
You certainly don’t need a table on the beach in order to use a Turkish towel as a runner, though. The Bali Market Turkish towels can be used as a table runner to add a boho chic vibe to your casual get togethers. Think brunch, summer BBQs or lunch with the girls.
To get the perfect towel for a tablecloth or runner, check out the Perfect Classic Towel.
2. WARP IT AROUND YOUR NECK FOR A CUTE SCARF IN COOLER WEATHER
Rocco (@rophowa) and Vanessa (@vanessalandit) both used their towels in cooler weather as a scarf. The Bali Market’s Waffle Weave towel is the perfect choice for this use. It’s slightly plush, making it a perfect fluffy blanket scarf!
Pro tip: If you’re traveling, you can wear your Turkish towel as a scarf to the airport and then use it as a blanket on the plane. Talk about making the best use of this towel. Double duty!
3. HANG IT ON A LADDER FOR A SPLASH OF CUTE HOME DECOR
Our customers agree, Turkish towels are simply too pretty to hide in a closet. They love to show off their Turkish towels on hooks, shelves, baskets and ladders inside and outside the bathroom. They also love to throw them over their couches or favorite chairs and even as a throw blanket on their bed. They add a splash of color and a little bit of pattern and a boho chic vibe to their home.
Esther @thiswildheart styles her towel on a leaning wall ladder. It’s a simple and practical way to store and display home linens.
4. GET COZY ON YOUR COUCH WITH A LIGHT THROW BLANKET
Turkish towels are generously sized and buttery soft for snuggling. Mix that with their pretty fringes and you get a towel that looks right at home on the couch.
Erin of @kismet_house is known for her boho-chic style and uses her towel as a light throw blanket in her CA 1970s beach house. She is so passionate about using her Perfect Classic towel as a throw blanket she commented “the first person that uses it as a towel dies!”
But even if someone did use it as a towel, it would be just fine. Turkish towels soften with use so go ahead and use them!
Ashley from @athomewithashley pairs her pink Turkish towel with a soothing cup of tea. She says “Now that it’s warming up, I like to use a Turkish towel for a throw since it’s perfectly light while being cozy. And how pretty is that pink color?!”
Because they’re light and compact they also make ideal travel blankets. Tuck one in your carry-on and you can use it to cover-up on a chilly airplane.
The Bali Market’s Essential Stripe towel is thick and perfect as a throw blanket.
5. WRAP IT AROUND YOUR HIPS AS A SARONG/BEACH COVER-UP
You need a towel at the beach, why not have one that works as a stylish cover-up as well? Learning how to wear a Turkish towel is simple. You can wear it high like a dress or slung low on your hips like a skirt. Tuck it or tie it to get it to stay in place.
6. GRAB IT FOR A DAY OUTSIDE AND USE IT AS A PICNIC BLANKET
Victoria of @thesoutherntrunk spent a day outside with her family and brought along her towel as a spot to sit and have a few snacks. She wrote a cheerful post about her afternoon on her blog The Southern Trunk.
Rachel of @rachellaurenlucy was moving to her new house and knew she’d be without proper furniture for a bit. She set up this classy picnic to enjoy an afternoon with friends while she was waiting for her furniture to arrive.
The towels are oversized, but for a comfortable space to spread out and adequate room for the snacks, we recommend using one towel per 1-2 people.
7. DID WE MENTION IT MAKES THE PERFECT TRAVEL BEACH TOWEL?
You already know a Turkish towel makes a great sarong and picnic blanket. You also know it’s perfect for adding texture and color around your home. Why not also use it as a beach towel?
Terry bath towels don’t work well as beach towels. They’re bulky and take forever to dry. It also looks like you just grabbed your bath towel and took it to the beach… You’re chicer than that!
But Turkish towels work perfectly as both bath and beach towels. They have a casual beach style and they’re so light they pack perfectly in your beach bag. Plus, they dry quickly so you’ll never have to pack a damp towel for your trip home.
Jyotsna of @cuppajyo took her towel on a few of her trips. She travels around enjoying beaches all over the world and also in her home state of California.
Looking for a travel beach towel? We recommend our Saltwater Stripe.
April @aprilzelenka took her towel on a “don’t think, just go” trip to Oahu, Hawaii. She said “When you head to the beach you have to pack the essentials. Sunglasses, wide brimmed hat and one of the adorable Turkish towels by The Bali Market.”
[BONUS] 8. HANG THEM UP AS CURTAINS IN YOUR HOME OR RV
Ok, ok, I know you were expecting 7 ways to use Turkish towels, BUT, this one was too good not to share. Using Turkish towels as curtains has got to be one of the most creative ways to use Turkish towels! With a few clips, a rod and a couple Turkish towels Shelby @shelbyretsoor created these boho-casual curtains in her #rvliving home. The best part? No sewing required.
I bet you’re thinking seriously about getting a Turkish towel (or you’re planning to get more, and I can’t say I blame you). Here’s two fun facts about Turkish towels:
THEY’RE VERSATILE BECAUSE THEY’RE THIN:
The thin, flat weave fabric makes them more versatile than their bulky terry-cloth counterpart. It also means they’ll dry faster and never get stinky. You’ll easily find uses for them in all areas of your life.
THEY’LL HELP YOU DE-CLUTTER:
This one towel is all you’ll need. You won’t need to store different towels for bath and the beach. They’re compact so they don’t take up a bunch of space in your linen closet or suitcase when you travel. Turkish towels fit perfectly into a minimalist lifestyle.
HERE’S WHAT YOU DO NEXT:
1. Choose your favorite style and color (feel free to mix & match)
2. Order 2 towels per person in your home (2 bath + 2 hand)
