How to Spot a Real Gucci T-shirt
AUTHENTICITY
A Gucci T-shirt is proof there’s no way around it: the logo has made a comeback in a big way. With the resurgence of monogram madness, interlocking LVs, CCs and GGs have embellished everything from belts to bags to, yes, T-shirts. Everyone seems to be sporting their favorite brand these days, but the ubiquity can only mean one thing — some logo pieces are real, and some are fake.
With counterfeits circling the resale market, it’s become increasingly difficult to spot an authentic streetwear favorite like the Gucci T-shirt in a sea of fakes. So how can you tell if your tee’s the real deal? Watch our video to see Gucci T-shirt authentication in action, then read our expert team’s detailed tips for spotting the real deal.
Gucci T-Shirt Materials & Construction
When evaluating a Gucci T-shirt for authenticity, note that Gucci exclusively uses cotton to create their T-shirts. While embellishments may be metal, leather, synthetic or a variety of other materials, a Gucci T-shirt that is not made of 100% cotton is a red flag.
If a Gucci T-shirt does feature appliqués, pay close attention to the details. Double check that they are finely detailed and sewn to the shirt with matching thread. Iron-ons, glue or invisible thread are signs of inauthenticity.

Gucci T-Shirt Brand Identifiers
Gucci’s iconic interlocking GG insignia is an essential part of the brand’s identity, and a key point to reference when spotting fakes. On the print, whether it be the ‘Vintage Logo’ graphic, an Angelica Hicks illustration or another design, there should be no bleeding between colors, and the letters should be crisp, not blurry or pixelated.
With Alessandro Michele-era clothing, the once-black Gucci tag now features an updated color palette, feel and look. The Gucci brand tag should be a cream ribbed jacquard with a clean back, affixed by red stitching at the corners. The back of the tag should not be covered or obscured, which is common with fakes, but should be the reverse side of the jacquard. Keep in mind that collaborations may feature tags in different colors, such as the Gucci Ghost collaboration, which includes a blue jacquard tag.
At the interior side seam of a real T-shirt, you’ll find a country of origin and fabrication tag with multiple pages. This should include the style and art numbers, which will be featured along the bottom of one of the tags.

How to Style the Gucci Logo T-Shirt

PHOTO: GETTY IMAGES
When the Gucci logo T-shirt came onto the scene a few seasons ago, it was with Creative Director Alessandro Michele’s new sporty-meets-vintage vibe, which has since permeated much of the marketplace. No matter how many designers try to master the look, though, we’ll always remember who started the hype at the beginning of his tenure at the brand.
The Gucci logo tee is, in many ways, the embodiment of the entire vibe of Michele’s Gucci. It is a 20- or 30-something girl raiding her grandmother’s closet for those vintage favorites but making them all her own with the addition of casual and sporty pieces from her personal wardrobe. What’s more, it’s a top that’s quickly become so ubiquitous that it almost transcends the graphic tee trend, taking on a category all its own that, through high-fashion branding, seems more acceptable in dressed-up scenarios than your classic branded top does.
With the influx of Gucci tee styles, our favorite stylish influencers have worn the wardrobe essential every way possible. It’s been styled with jean shorts and sneakers or knife-pleat midi skirts and heels as often as it’s been layered under bustiers, over bodysuits, and tucked into the top of tailored trousers. It can be made edgy with a leather jacket or preppy with the addition of a blazer to your Gucci T-shirt look.

A Guide to Shopping for Vintage T-shirts

If you’re looking for a way to instantly make your outfit look cooler or more stylish, just add a vintage tee. Vintage tees are everywhere right now from the street style scene to celebs and fashion bloggers. I think they’ve always been cool but they are so popular right now, it can get tricky to finding the best vintage t-shirts. Here’s a guide to shopping for vintage t-shirts whether you’re a newbie to vintage or a long-time fan.
WHERE TO SHOP FOR VINTAGE TEES
Thrift Stores
Although vintage dealers hit thrift stores on a regular basis and as soon as inventory hits the floor, they are still your best bet for finding vintage tees for cheap. Come up with a list of shops near you and come up with a regular schedule based on when inventory is put out. Always spend a lot of time looking at the entire store, every aisle, department, every. single. time.
Vintage Shops
A lot of vintage shops are curated thrift stores in that you’ll find a lot of great pieces, but you’ll pay a mark up since someone else has done the hard job of sifting through a lot of duds to find gems. If you’re looking for trending tees, then the vintage shop is your best source to get the it-girl tee without spending too much time to look.
Flea Markets
Flea markets are so hot right now for vintage pieces, but beware that not everything at the flea is actually vintage. Some pieces look vintage, but they may just be newer pieces that have been worn to look vintage. You can still find authentic vintage tees, just be prepared to look for a while and pay more than the thrift store.
Online
You know that eBay is my go-to for vintage pieces, but Etsy is also a good place to look. I feel like eBay is the new pickers destination which is what thrift stores and flea markets used to be since there is so much inventory out there. When buying online, just be sure to ask for measurements and lots of pictures so you can get a good idea of the quality, color, and fit. Here are some favorite online shops that have great vintage tees:
TIPS FOR BUYING VINTAGE TEES
Tip #1: Band or Concert Tees
Authentic brand or concert tees are from a particular year and tie to a specific concert or tour. Most authentic tees will have a label stating the date.
Tip #2: College Tees
If band tees aren’t your thing, then shop for college tees. The most popular ones are Ivy League tees such as Harvard or Dartmouth. They are cheaper than concert tees, plus they are super soft.
Tip #3: Wear & Tear
A little wear and tear adds to the character of a vintage tee, but don’t spend good money on something with a lot of holes. Just think those holes will just get worse after a few washes. I avoid tops with yellow armpit stains, but if it’s something I absolutely love, then I follow these tips to remove the yellow.
Tip #4: Fit
Always shop by measured size, not labeled size when it comes to vintage. Modern and vintage sizing vary so much, so you always want to try on a tee to make sure it fits. I like a more fitted look but I also like rolling up sleeves if it’s an extra baggy tee.
Tip #5: Research
Before you buy, make sure that if you’re buying a concert tee, that it actually existed! A quick Google search on your phone or computer is a must!
Tip #6: Have Fun
Don’t stop at concert, band or college tees. I have Disneyland tees and even ones with funny logos and graphics. These types of tees are easier to find and much cheaper.
